The island of Maui is of course beautiful with its miles of beaches and its jungles, waterfalls, and mountains. However, it is poor in terms of mammailian fauna with the only native species being a bat, but non-natives such as the mongoose have been introduced. The bird fauna is more diverse although it includes a large number of non-natives. But what the island lacks in terrestrial wildlife it makes up for in the oceans which contain a rich diversity of species including saltwater fish, turtles, and other species.
