A sampling of black-footed ferret footage collected in South Dakota. Individual clips can be found at HDNatureFootage.net (contact us if you need help).
The black-footed ferret is generally considered by most endangered mammal in North America. In fact it was at one time thought to be extinct but a small population was discovered in the wild in Wyoming. The remaining animals were brought into a protective propogation facility with offspring subsequently reintroduced into the wild. There are now a couple dozen reintroductions in about a dozen states as well as in Canada. The video footage includes ferrets in the wild running and looking around. In one very rare sequence a black-footed ferret above ground in daytime is attacked by a prairie dog, an amazing event considering that the ferret is the predator and the prairie dog is the prey.
