Capybara Wildlife Footage

A sampling of capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) footage collected primarily in the Brazil Pantanal.  Individual clips can be found at HDNatureFootage.net, as can more HD and 4k footage (contact us if you need help).

The Brazil Pantanal is a vast seasonally flooded wetland complex in Brazil.  Although less famous than the Amazon it is in many ways better for wildlife watching in part because of the network of rivers and in the dry season, a few dirt roads.  In addition to being a great place to see capybara, it is also popular to see one of their primary predators, the jaguar.  At the end of the clip is one shot of the smaller and more solitary Lesser Capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius) taken in Panama.  The video includes large groups of capybara and smaller groups walking and feeding, nursing young, alarmed and nervous, and calling or barking their alarm call.
